Razvan Lucescu’s PAOK produced the perfect response after Sunday’s defeat in the league to Aris, beating NFC Volos 2-0 away at the Panthessaliko Stadium to seal qualification to the quarter-finals of the Betsson Greek Cup.

It was a tough game. The home team started with a lot of intensity, fought for every ball, and made it difficult for the Double-headed Eagle.

PAOK, for their part, created two good chances via Brandon and Rafa Soares, neither of which found the target, only for Ioannis Constantelias to provide the solution.

Mr.Breeze broke through the opposing defense with a wonderful move, and an equally unstoppable finish made it 1-0 to the visitors in the 17th minute, which put the aggregate score at 2-0 to ease any early nerves.

The score on the night did not change up until the half-break, with PAOK controlling the tempo for long spells, and not allowing Volos to threaten.

In the second half, Lucescu’s players came our in determined mood to finish the game and the tie as a contest, and they began to push the hosts back into their own half, but without creating a clear-cut opportunity.

The home side tried to mount a response, but Živko Živkovic was there to stop them on two occasions, before Stefan Schwab effectively ended the game and tie in the 73rd minute.

After a great team effort, Sastre crossed from the right, the Volos defense stopped Konstantelias, but the Austrian sent the ball into the net on the rebound for the final 2-0 scoreline, making it 3-0 overall on aggregate for PAOK.

That means that PAOK got the reaction that their coach was looking for immediately, sealed qualification to the last four, and they now turn their attention to this coming Sunday’s game at Toumba Stadium against PAS Ioannina.

Team lineups:

NFC Volos: Kovacs, Aslanidis, Kalogeropoulos, Sielis (Rasits 63′), Kitsos, Glavcits (Luna 71′), Truige, Deletics (Komba 63′), Karagiannis, Bertolio, Garcia (Moraitis 46′)

PAOK: Z.Zivkovic, Sastre, Kedziora, Michailidis, Rafa Soares, Schwab, Tsingaras (Meite 70′), Despodov (A.Zivkovic 70′), Konstantelias (Murg 81′), Marcos Antonio (Taison 70′), Brandon (Tzimas 79′).
