Three points in the bag

PAOK sealed 2015 with a 1-0 victory over Platanias, who came to Toumba to play good football.

20.12.2015

The visiting side didn’t really threaten PAOK’s box, but they made them uncomfortable anyway. The “Double-Headed Eagle” dominated in the first half and wasted opportunities to score with Stefanos Athanasiadis and Róbert Mak.

Having failed to get the opener, PAOK players were faced with an uphill task after the interval. It was obvious that fatigue and absences absorb the team’s energy and self-confidence.

A goal would decide the encounter and Mak came closer to achieving it. Finally however it was Klaus who got his name on the scorers’ sheet, converting a spot kick earned by Giorgos Tzavellas.

In the last stretch of the match, self-preservation prevailed and PAOK defended to keep their lead and finish off the match. They had been deprived of luck anyway, as suggested by the injuries of Dimitris Konstantinidis (unfortunately he might miss the rest of the season) and Robin Olsen (sustained a fibula knock) who were substituted off.

At the end of the first round of the Super League, PAOK have 26 points, quite less than they deserved. A tally affected by their fatigue from 6 tiring months and 30 matches played.

Line-ups:

PΑΟΚ: Olsen (62′ Melissas), Malezas, Tzavellas, Konstantinidis (22′ Skondras), Cimirot, Pelkas (70′ Berbatov), Tziolis, Mystakidis, Leovac, Athanasiadis, Mak.

Platanias: Sotiriou, Scardoveli, Banana, Itoua (78′ Dinas), Apostolopoulos, Gnjatić, Mendrinos (86′ Pangalos), Milunović (70′ Angulo), Munafo, Selin, Ramos.
