The Invincibles
There is no doubt that PAOK are one of the best sides to grace Greek football. The “Double-Headed Eagle” won in Giannina and made history, by becoming only the second team ever to win the Greek league undefeated, and the first since 1964.
PAOK sealed an impressive season with 26 victories and 4 draws in the league. They started with -2 points and ended with +5. In emphatic style, being demure, focused, having faith, displaying strong character, mettle and very attractive football… From matchday one until the end, PAOK didn’t allow rivals to doubt their supremacy and threaten their lead.
All these assets were on display in Giannina as well. PAOK had a rather tentative start to the game, but then took control, had a shot on goal and didn’t permit their rivals to come close to their box. After the interval, the “Double-Headed Eagle” made the most of the opportunities presented to them and won the match, completing the historic feat of an undefeated league.
Dimitris Pelkas stepped up as creative midfielder. He served Chuba Akpom the simplest of finishes with the goal at his mercy (60’) and then set up Yevhen Shakhov, only seconds after the latter’s introduction on the pitch. The Ukrainian midfielder scored with a header, sealing PAOK’s 2-0 victory.
