PAOK vs. Volos: Facts & Figures
Ahead of PAOK’s Super League Matchday 21 clash against Volos, paokfc.gr puts you in the picture about the background to the match, as well as a look back at our previous encounters against the Magnesia club.
- Volos was the 69th team that PAOK have faced in 60 years in the Greek top flight. The previous club which was added to that last was Lamia, a team PAOK faced in our previous match.
- In recent years, playing against «new» teams in the division has been hugely beneficial for PAOK, since including Lamia, the Dikefalos tou Vorra has won six games out of six home and away without conceding a single goal.
- The previous newcomer [before Lamia] was AEL Kalloni, with whom PAOK managed five wins and a draw in the three years that the team from Lesvos remained in the top flight. This record comes in addition to PAOK’s positive series of results against another former newcomer Platanias, who PAOK defeated 10 times, played one draw and lost once against.
- That loss against Platania was a sort of parenthesis, since the «new» opponent before the Cretans was Thrasyvoulos, a club which spent only one season in the top flight and losing both matches against PAOK. Overall, against those «new» teams that have come into the top flight in recent years, PAOK has recorded 24 wins, two draws and one defeat.
- PAOK is one of three times that have had a continuous presence in the top flight and this is the club’s 61st year in Greece’s top division. They are joined by both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, while Panionios and AEK follow with 58 each.
- The last time PAOK faced an opponent from Volos in the league at the Toumba was in the 2010-11 season when the Dikefalos tou Vorra defeated Olympiacos Volos 3-0 thanks to goals from Lino (21’), Vieirinha (43’) και Salpigidis (87’).
- In the first match between the two teams in Volos, PAOK ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Limnios (29’) και Pelkas (74’).
