Friendly win over Charleroi
PAOK defeated Belgian side Charleroi 2-0 in a pre-season friendly in the Netherlands, playing some good football from time to time, and showing plenty of energy despite the tough training regime they have been undertaking in recent weeks.
Razvan Lucescu opted to select two different sets of players per half, trying out his charges in various combinations. The team, however, seemed to keep its chemistry whatever changes were made, adapting to the desires of the coach, although of course we are still in the early stages of the season, while comfortably handling an opposing side that kicks off their competitive obligations next week.
In the first half it was PAOK who seized the initiative, with the Double-headed Eagle team holding the ball well and pressing forward at every opportunity, creating opportunities. However, the chances they did create were stopped by the excellent Charleroi goalkeeper, who had the answers to all the questions that were asked of hime by PAOK.
The second half began with a goal. Murg delivered a corner and Oliveira netted his first goal in a PAOK shirt with a clinical side-footed effort.
Charleroi tried to respond, and they had a few good moments. However, they also found it difficult to get past PAOK goalkeeper Zivko Zivkovic. As the clock ticked down, Murg popped up to score with a neat finish in the 88th minute to wrap up the 2-0 win, which despite being a friendly match, did have plenty of intensity, passion and a good tempo.
On Wednesday (21.07) PAOK will play another friendly game against Heracles Almelo in the Netherlands at 15:00.
