Schwab was born in Saalfelden on 27.09.1990. He enjoyed sport from a young age, and apart from football, he also competed in the alpine biathlon, ski, and ski jumping. His love for the round goddess prevailed, however, and finally at the age of 13 he made the decision to devote himself entirely to it.

Initially he played for his local team, and from the age of 14 he played at the Salzburg youth academy, where he remained from 2004 to 2011. In 2009 he played for the ‘B’ Team and played in the Austrian second division, while also training with the first team. In 2010 he was loaned out to Lustenau, where he made 24 appearances, scored six goals, and contributed seven assists. He returned to Salzburg but did not stay long, as he soon left for a new loan spell with Admira Wacker, with whom he celebrated promotion to the top flight.

Admira activated the purchase option included in the loan agreement and Schwab made a permanent switch. He stayed at the club until 2014 and played a leading role from the beginning, taking on big responsibilities in the midfield. He played 114 games in total, scoring 20 goals, and served up another 14, a feat which naturally began to arouse the interest of bigger clubs.

In June 2014Rapid Vienna signed him from Admira for just 400,000 euros, and in the process finally found a player who would be one of the club’s leading lights for the next six years.

At Rapid, Schwab excelled in both domestic and European competitions. He wore the captain’s armband, make 241 appearances, scored 51 goals, and provided as many assists, also earning a call-up to his national team.

In the summer of 2020, his contract expired and he accepted PAOK’s offer. The Austrian midfielder comes to Thessaloniki aiming to provide additional options for the midfield with his quality and experience.
