Murg’s exquisite curler
Thomas Murg’s goal which rubber-stamped PAOK’s place in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage against Rijeka in Croatia won the public vote for August’s Regency Casino Best Goal.
The story is as follows. PAOK held a slender one-goal lead for about 80 minutes in Croatia. Rijeka were playing in the last chance saloon and throwing all of their players forward in the hope of grabbing an equalizer. But then the quality of the Double-headed Eagle players shone through to settle it.
Andrija Zivkovic pushed high up the pitch and won possession, and off-leaded the ball to Karol Swiderski. Without so much as a second thought, the Polish forward instinctively teed up Thomas Murg and the Austrian did the rest, side-footing a delicious curling strike away from the diving opposing goalkeeper nd into the back of the net to lock up the qualification.
And in the Regency Casino Best Goal poll for August, Murg received 41.57% of the votes to win the award.
In second place was El Kaddouri’s smart, prodded finish from the same game in Croatia, and the podium was completed by Biseswar for his goal against Bohemians at the Toumba Stadium.
