Samatta  was born on 23 December 1992 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. He initially joined the African Lyon academies.

He started his professional career at Simba in Tanzania, before moving to Congo with TP Mazebe where he stayed for five seasons, playing in 133 games and scoring 85 goals, winning the African Champions League, and in 2016 he was named African Footballer of the Year.

His performances did not go unnoticed by Genk, who acquired him in January 2016. In four years in Belgium he had a successful experience. He played in 191 matches, scored 76 goals, provided 20 assists, became the top scorer of the Belgian league in the 2018-19 season and helped the team win the championship.

The way to the next step was opened up. Aston Villa offered 10,500,000 euros to Genk in January 2020 and brought the Tanzanian to the best league on the planet. In six months he managed to become the first Tanzanian to play and score in the Premier League, wearing the Villa shirt in 16 games, scoring two goals. The English team decided to grant him a loan for the next season. Fenerbahce initially acquired him on loan, while at the end of the season he was granted a regular transfer.

In his first year in Turkey he played 30 times and scored six goals, but in the 2021-22 season he was loaned to Antwerp. There, he made 39 appearances, scoring nine goals while serving up five assists, before returning to Turkey but then leaving again on loan to Belgium. He wore the shirt of Genk again had another busy season with 36 appearances, six goals and one assist, and decided to end his partnership with Fener and look for a new challenge.

The Tanzanian forward has made 23 appearances for the Double-headed Eagle and he has scored three goals and served up two assists.
