«A great, historic win»
He was the hero of PAOK on Thursday. He produced important saves, guided his defence masterfully and played with self-denial at the end, when he suffered a quadriceps strain. After the final whistle, Panagiotis Glykos spoke to the media in the mixed zone of Signal Iduna Park for the team’s great victory.
On the importance of tonight’s victory:
«It’s a great, historic win, but we need to forget about it come tomorrow, as it didn’t bring qualification. We need to focus on the league, because that will secure us a spot in Europe next season as well» .
On whether he thought about requesting substitution:
«It didn’t even cross my mind. When I found out that we had completed all three substitutions, I tried to give it all until the end. I asked my teammates to help me and thankfully everything went well. They all gave it their best and were very helpful«.
On whether he will miss upcoming games:
«That’s sports, everything happens too quickly. In two-three weeks, it will be a thing of the past. I need to dig deep psychologically and get through this injury«.
On what his teammates were telling him during the match:
«They were asking what was wrong and I told them I sustained a muscular inuury. There was no issue of substitution. At that point of the match, it would be too difficult for someone to put on his gloves and take my place in goal«.
On PAOK supporters:
«It was a fantastic atmosphere. It was strange to hear our fans be louder than the home crowd. Listening to them boosted our morale and confidence. Part of this victory is theirs» .
On his teammates’ congratulations:
«I was the last one to enter the locker rooms. Everyone congratulated me and applauded. It was a very pleasing experience» .
