Stuck at Livadia

It was by definition a match that would be decided by a goal, but PAOK couldn’t find their way to the scoreboard. When they did, the referee decided to overrule the goal and the teams remained deadlocked at Livadia.

14.12.2015

This result brings PAOK’s winning streak at an end and doesn’t allow them to come closer to second place. It wasn’t a quality encounter. Many passes, several turnovers, few opportunities to score, even less substance in the game.

PAOK were the ones to take the initiative and Levadiakos tried to keep the tempo low and make the most of any counterattacking chances they got.

Igor Tudor saw Charis Charisis limp out during the warm-up and had to substitute him before kick-off. In the interval, he made two substitutions in order to freshen up his squad. One of the newcomers, Giannis Mystakidis, teed up Stefanos Athanasiadis with a cross from the right, but the Greek striker, though unguarded, sent his header wide.

In the last minutes of the encounter, PAOK applied pressure on Levadiakos who were more than content to cling on the goalless draw. However the finishing of the “Double-Headed Eagle” left much to be desired. In the 93rd minute, Dimitar Berbatov headed the ball at the back of the net, but referee Aretopoulos disallowed the goal, following the classic Greek patern “we whistle if it looks like a foul and we’ll check later if there was indeed a contact”… In reality, Berbatov neither hindered nor held Tripotseris. Details…

Levadiakos: Tsidotas, Tripotseris, Manolas, Ouon, Stathis, Moulopoulos, Nikolaou, Mingas (87′ Jahić), Domovchiyski (78′ Kapsaskis), Giakoumakis (94′ Topi), Mantzios.

PΑΟΚ: Olsen, Tziolis, Malezas, Tzavellas, Leovac, Kace, Sabo (80′ Pelkas ), Rodrigues (46′ Mystakidis), Cimirot, Mak, Athanasiadis (68′ Berbatov)
