PAOK – Veria: Mixed zone

After the encounter against Veria, the players went to the mixed zone to speak to media representatives. Here is what Berbatov, Vítor and Melissas said:

17.01.2016

Dimitar Berbatov, who was voted Vodafone MVP of the match against Veria having scored for a second consecutive match, spoke about the importance of this victory, the recent winning streak of the team, his own form and his new role in the line-up:

«I feel good, mostly about the three points collected today. Individual awards come and go, but points are important. The best accolade in my opinion is for the team to play well, to perform on the pitch. It would be great if we won the Greek Cup at the end of the season. Klaus and I are trying to combine. How can I not be happy here? There is nothing missing, I get to see the sea every day. In football, it’s not possible to play well in every match. Some time a team has to play smart and win games even if they are not good on that given day. This detail separates the good and the very good teams. As time goes by, we pick up more things on the way. In this system, I feature as playmaker and not in my usual position. I am trying to learn the movements of my teammates and cooperate, we need some fine-tuning in matches to achieve that. Sometimes we play well and don’t win, other times we don’t play well but win. That’s important as well, especially now with so many back-to-back games. «.

Miguel Vítor played his 100th game with the “Double-Headed Eagle” and celebrated the milestone with victory. He spoke about the encounter against Veria and upcoming matches:

«It’s pleasant to have reached 100 games, but it will be more important to celebrate a title with the team. We were very good today. We didn’t deserve to be under such pressure in the final minutes, we could have finished off the encounter earlier. Regarding the extension of my contract, we are negotiating and things look good. I am waiting to see PAOK’s stance. We had adjusted fine with the previous tactical system and performed rather well. In recent matches though we have improved. For a player, the system shouldn’t be important. He should be ready to do whatever his coach asks him to«.

Nikos Melissas spoke about his blunder that led to Veria’s goal and stressed that he must get over his error as soon as possible:

«Goalkeepers can’t avoid mistakes. It’s important to be strong enough to overcome them. I am always thinking of not letting down my teammates, who make a huge effort, or the fans. I meant to exit and clear the ball away, but Giannis passed it to me. It’s gone though, it’s over. We talked about it in the locker room. I need to focus and see why that happened. From now on, when my coach picks me again in his line-up, I will try to give everything I have got. There are many games ahead of us and we need to win«.
