Here are some interesting stats, background data and head-to-head info regarding the encounters between PAOK and Xanthi, a few hours before they meet in Toumba for their Greek Cup quarter-final second leg.
#It’s the fourth time that PAOK face Xanthi in the Greek Cup. The “Double-Headed Eagle” boast a perfect record, as they claimed qualification all three previous times.
#In 1990-91, the first leg was held in Xanthi, just like in the current season. PAOK and Xanthi met in the Greek Cup round of 16 and the Thrace outfit prevailed 2-1 at home (Marcelo 30’, Alavantas 69’ – Ibrahim Hassan 75’). PAOK snatched qualification to the quarter-finals by winning 2-0 in Toumba (Skartados 40’, 70’).
#In 1997-98, the two sides were paired in the quarter-final stage. On 25 February 1998, PAOK took the advantage with a 2-0 victory in Toumba (Fratzeskos 36’, Velis 84’). Their 1-0 defeat in Xanthi (Vilanakis 13’) didn’t prove costly.
