PAOK – Atromitos: Mixed zone
Here is what PAOK players said to the media after their encounter against Atromitos:
Léo Matos said that they all share responsibility for the defeat, didn’t blame fatigue and spoke about the remainder of the Super League season and their journey in Europe:
On what Ivić said in his press conference:
«Whatever happened is the players’ responsibility. Everyone who played is to blame. We are a team and our performance wasn’t as it was supposed to be. I won’t dwell on our fatigue in the end, having been reduced to ten players after the demanding encounter against Fiorentina. Perhaps we lowered our intensity when we restored our two-goal lead. We are all responsible for this result. We must bounce back soon«.
On the current league and what PAOK can achieve:
«We can turn this around. Three days ago we showed what we are capable of. I have worked with several coaches – our coach at PAOK is very good. We are 100% responsible to show that we can fight it. We are not halfway through the season yet and we need to prove that we can be much better«.
On qualification to the UEFA Europa League last 32 stage:
«Before the encounter against Slovan Liberec, we need to concentrate on the other matches at hand. We have what it takes, it’s up to us to play well against the Czech side. We believe in qualification. As players, we need to see what we are doing wrong. We have a good team and a good coach who works well with us. We need to improve ourselves and our team«.
Efthymis Koulouris tried to explain the defeat:
On the reasons behind the loss to Atromitos:
«We are also trying to come to terms with what happened. We were good in the first half and could have scored more goals. In the second half, we wanted to keep the same pace, but it turned out differently. We weren’t good at all, we weren’t creative, we didn’t hold on to the ball. I can’t say anything more. We need to keep our heads low and continue working. A lot of factors weighed in. We weren’t as we should be. There was the dismissal, the forced substitutions, everything played a role… We must stick together and continue. It was a very bad result for us at home, but we need to continue«.
On whether they were affected by their victory over Fiorentina:
«Our win in Florence gave us a boost. We started strongly in the first half, but my concern is the second half. We weren’t as we should be, we didn’t play well. Now we need to focus on what we are doing wrong«.
Garry Rodrigues, who was voted Vodafone MVP of the encounter, didn’t want to talk to the media. He excused himself and left.
