Răzvan Lucescu spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the away encounter against Lamia. You can read on paokfc.gr what the Romanian tactician said:

15.02.2018

On his feelings:

«I am thinking about the game and trying to prepare the team as best as possible«.

On the possible absence of Campos and how he will handle it:

«You know perfectly well that we need fresh feet and there is not much time in-between matches. I am glad that Campos’s injury is light and he will soon return to action«.

On his team’s displays:

«It’s a tough question to answer, because each match is different. At Panetolikos we wasted two big opportunities to score at first and then pressured for that goal, which we fortunately netted at the end of the encounter. In Giannina, we scored early and then had to handle that result. The game against Atromitos was different, because it was a Greek Cup knockout leg against a very tough opponent. We managed to win 3-1 and make several changes at the same time. The encounter against AEL Larissa was also different. We were playing at home on excellent turf, with our fans on our side. As you see, there are different factors in every game«.

On his team’s changed attitude and progress since the start of the season:

«First of all, it’s not my place to know or comment on what was happening before me. I can safely say that we have a clear game philosophy and a clear training philosophy. This philosophy comes out on the pitch through our organization and attitude. Regarding my first weeks here and especially our away games, now we don’t wait, we don’t stay back. Our mentality is to claim the ball and move forward. That is not always possible because there are specificities in each game. But, since this is our starting point, eventually everything will go well. I remember the game in Larissa. We were trying to go forward, but there was always something stopping us. Sometimes we would lose our attacking spirit after scoring a goal. But that is not the case anymore. We needed time to get to know each other and to achieve chemistry. The coach sees something that the players don’t. It’s not bad to hold on to the ball and disrupt our rivals’ balance. It’s also normal for some players to be in less form that others. But our mentality allows us to react. Take Barcelona or Manchester City for instance. They don’t always play well, but they manage to get what they want out of their matches regardless of form«.

On whether he feels vindicated with his choice to field Vieirinha at left back:

«Results speak for themselves. Now we are in a good place and have balance. Even if we field him as goalkeeper, Vierinha will be fantastic, he is determined, has a great character and will help us in any position. Looking back, we were good even before starting our winning streak. We have won all our home encounters and lost away only to AEK Athens and Olympiacos in games where we were better. If you ask our players why we are better now, they will know the answer«.

On whether he feels personally vindicated with his team’s run so far:

«There is no point in speaking about anything else than the upcoming game against Lamia. We are only interested in getting those three points in Lamia. I am perfectly honest with you, I don’t want to speak about what PAOK have done so far. I have zero interest in promoting my name. I am here as a coach. I want us to prepare thoroughly for every match and get good results. I feel responsible towards the players, the administration and all those surrounding the club. I want us to get the maximum out of every encounter«.

On the encounter against Lamia:

«I expect a match similar to the one against Larissa, with much pressure and man-to-man defending. All teams who visited Lamia had a tough time there, that is why we need to be very focused. Personally I believe that there is nothing more enjoyable than the fans following the team around and being there to support us. That is why I am saddened with the situation in Greek football. Hopefully we will sense their support from afar«.
