«We are working for the team»
Rodrigo Rey spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the “Double-Headed Eagle’s” encounter against OFI in Crete. Here is what the Argentinian keeper said:
On his situation:
«I am fine, I give my best in training every day and I am happy to be part of this team. The most important thing for me is for our team to keep winning» .
On PAOK’s displays during the summer:
«We knew it was a tall order, we were waiting and hoping. From now on, we have to work hard and prove ourselves on the pitch» .
On the international break:
«This break proved useful, as we managed to rest for a few days after a period of several back-to-back games. Now it’s a new start for us with another bunch of consecutive matches. As I said earlier, we need to focus on our work, because upcoming encounters are tough and very important for the team«.
On the differences between the team of this season and the previous one:
«First of all, we have a new side with several newcomers who need to adjust to tactics –and that isn’t easy, but I believe we are on the right path. We need time, because it’s impossible to learn everything the coach asks from one day to the next, but we have a solid team. All new players are good and the team will become stronger with every game and prove on the pitch that we are a very tough rival for everyone –something we did last season as well«.
On the competition between PAOK’s goalkeepers:
«Competition is good for us, because we are all good keepers and try to help each other every day. Now Paschalakis is the starter and we support him as best as we can so that he can be strong and perform well. In my opinion, that is the main objective: to work for the team and to help PAOK win and celebrate titles. That’s the most beautiful image: winning titles«.
On the goalkeepers’ hug before games:
«What we tell each other depends on the game. In some matches, we must push each other in order to achieve top mental level and require optimum clarity. Other games are emotionally charged, therefore we aim to remain calm and focus on our game and our job. I want to convey positive vibes to Paschalakis, so that he will be strong on the pitch. To be honest, us goalkeepers along with our goalkeeping coach have formed a little family and get along perfectly. That hug before warm-up is always our moment«.
On the game against OFI Crete:
«We want to kick off this period of demanding games with a victory. We don’t just want to win, but to play well. It’s important for our self-confidence to perform well in a tough ground. We have been working hard this week in order to play well and win three points«.
