Not giving in anytime soon

Paokfc.gr’s Rival Analysis column puts the magnifying glass on this weekend’s opponents Panionios, giving you the lowdown on everything you need to know about the Nea Smyrni club ahead of our Super League Matchday 15 contest.

19.12.2019

Written off at the start of the season due to the fact that they began the campaign with -6 points after failing to get a licence, Panionios lost several important players and their budget was drastically reduced.

But, the Blue and Reds are getting to their feet and are still alive and kicking. Not only have they managed to make up the -6 points, but they have already climbed above Panetolikos and at the moment are not in danger of automatic relegation. It’s still early at the moment, and the club will need to battle for every point if they are to stay up.

The early rounds of fixtures were a big disappointment. The team simply could not get the results it needed and Akis Mantzios parted ways. Nikos Papavasilieou came in and has managed to change the attitude of the players.

So far Panionios have managed to win 12 points, but only six of those are registered on the table, with three wins, three draws and eight defeats, while they have the second worst attack in the league with just 13 goals, as well as the second worst defence with 25 conceded.

The team’s top scorer with six goals is Bachana Arabuli, with Dimitris Emmanouilidis second with three. Panagiotis Korbos and Giannis Masouras are the team’s top creators with two assists each. A big upset for the club is that of Pedro Arce, who ruptured knee ligaments last week and will be sidelined for a lengthy period.
