On this day: Malioufas’ hat-trick
On April 4th 1984, Kostas Malioufas scored the one and only hat-trick of his professional career.
In a Greek Cup match against Anagennisi Artas, the 21-year-old played as a forward and scored three times in a win for the Dikefalos tou Vorra. His first came via a shot after 11 minutes, then a header in the 73rd minute, before he sealed a treble with a 78th-minute penalty. He had also scored in the 1-1 draw between the two sides in their first meeting.
In the next round, PAOK faced Iraklis and were eliminated after drawing 0-0 at the Toumba and losing 4-1 at the Kaftanzogleio Stadium with Malioufas again the man on target for PAOK.
With the five goals he scored in the 1983-84 season he was the club’s top scorer in the competition, with Kosttikos, Skardatos, Apostolou behind him with two each, while Trimhold was net with one goal.
Kostas Malioufas later moved to defence and never scored any further goals for the club in the remaining 50 matches he played in the Greek Cup for PAOK, but he did score five more goals in 196 matches in the league.
