The season starts here for new-look PAOK B [pictures]
With an eye on the future, the satisfaction that nine of its “kids” took a step towards the Super League, some others in the Super League 2, and even abroad, PAOK B kicked off their pre-season preparations today (23.07) for their fifth season in Super League 2.
The squad met this morning at the team’s Souroti facilities, under the supervision of head coach Nikos Karageorgiou, who continues at the helm of PAOK B with the same technical team and with a renewed squad, which features a young average age, and some of the «old» players who have remained, as well as those who were promoted from the U-19’s (2006 and 2007), but also some even younger ones, born in 2008. The new faces, so far, are Vangelis Gravvanis, who was acquired from AEL, Nigerian midfielder Abasiekeme Ikobong, the Ghanaian midfielder Prince Afriyie, who comes on loan from Mosta FC of Malta and the Portuguese Pedro Biasotto (midfielder), who was acquired as a free agent from Estrela U-13.
Let us remind you that Grosdis, Lagonidis and Sinanai were acquired from Volos (Tasiouras had also left for Volos halfway through last season), Smyrlis from Panaitolikos, Goumas and Filon from Levadiakos, Tsaousis and Rumiantsev from Panserraikos, while Spyrakos went on loan to Kalamata, and Deligiannis was acquired from Slovakian Petrzalka.
Also, Nader, Kiatos and Pitsotis left the team, Hurtado’s loan from Watford was completed, while Bradonjić and Selimai had left earlier in the season.
It goes without saying that the squad will be finalized after the summer preparation is completed, given that PAOK B and the U-19 team operate as connecting vessels to the senior men’s squad, while there are also players who will enter the testing process, so that the «green light» can be given.
The squad will remain in Thessaloniki until August 1, when they will then move to Volakas in Drama for the main stage of thei pre-season preparations, which will last until August 12. It goes without saying that a series of friendly preparation matches will also be played, at least seven or eight of them. So far, the matches with Apollon Kalamaria on 24.08 and with Kalamata on 27.08 ave been confirmed.
Regarding the manner in which the Super League 2 championship for the 2025-26 season will be held, the league organizers have decided on two groups of 10 teams. After the end of the regular season, the teams in positions 1 to 4 will play in the Play Offs and those in positions 5 to 10 will compete in the Play Outs. Two teams are promoted (the first of each group), eight are relegated (four of each group), so that from the 2026-27 season the championship will be played in a single group of 16 teams. As things stand, the following teams will participate in Group A: PAOK B, POT Iraklis Fournoi Veneti, PAS Giannina, Makedonikos, Kampaniakos, Niki Volos, Anagennisi Karditsas, Kavala, Nestos Chrysoupolis, Asteras AKTOR B and in Group B: Athens Kallithea, Aigaleo, Hellas Syrou, Ilioupoli, Kalamata, Markos, Panionios, Olympiacos B, Chania, Panargeakos.
The league fixtures draw will be held on September 1st and the first matches are expected to kick-off on September 14th.
