PAOK B clinch vital win over PAS
10-man PAOK B picked up a vital three-point haul with a 1-0 win over PAS Giannina 1-0 on Matchday 12 of Super League 2 that took place on Saturday afternoon at the Apollon Kalamaria Stadium. Despite playing for 55 minutes with a player less after Gitersos was sent off, PAOK’s second string showed plenty of steel to claim the win and move onto 14 points.
PAOK B were clearly the better side in the first half, being much more mobile, with regular threats posed to the PAS goal. The biggest first opportunity they created was in the 16th minute, when Kosidis failed to open the scoring from close range. In the 22nd minute, unfortunately, Kottas fell to the turf with dizzyness after suffering a head injury and slight concussion and so was unable to continue the game, with Bataoulas replacing him. Then, from the 38th minute onwards, PAOK B were called upon to manage the match with a player less, as Gitersos was sent off. As for the visitors, they threatened mainly from set pieces in first-half added time, with Nikolakoulis marshalling the danger well.
In reality, given that the hosts were playing with a numerical disadvantage, it was the visitors who began to dominate the game in the second half. PAOK B defended well though, as PAS tried their utmost to find a goal to break the deadlock. Still, PAOK B again had the best chance with the visitors’ goalkeeper blocking Tsifoutis‘ header in the 64th minute. However, Tsifoutis eventually found a way three minutes later to pass the ball to Balde , who scored with a great strike to make it 1-0. The Double-headed Eagle then managed the rest of the game well, holding on to this important victory until the end.
On the next matchday, PAOK B face an away game against Asteras Tripolis B.
