PAOK B secure Super League 2 status
PAOK B mathematically secured their stay in Greece’s second tier. The Double-headed Eagle drew 1-1 with Nestos Chrysoupolis in their Matchday 8 play-outs contest, and are now eight points clear of third-placed Kavala, with two rounds remaining to complete the championship.
PAOK B and Nestos Chrysoupolis will therefore compete in Super League 2 next season, as after Kavala’s defeat in Ioannina by PAS, Nestos is seven points above Kavala.
Under torrential rain, it is true that a quality game of football was difficult. PAOK were in control, … passing the ball around, but without however threatening the opposition penalty area. Goals attempts were few and far between in what was a scrappy first half that remained goalless.
The same pattern followed in the second 45 minutes, with the first opportunity being recorded in the 63rd minute when Adam fired in a powerful shot, but the ball rebounded and went wide. Four minutes later, however, Nestos, in perhaps their only attack on Stergiakis’ goal, found a way to score, with Lelekas the player on target. PAOK equalized in the 87th minute with a well-taken penalty by Gitersos, which was awarded for a handball in the penalty area after a shot by Sarris. The 1-1 scoreline remained until the final shistle, with PAOK next facing Kampaniakos away on April 22.
