PAOK B slip to defeat at the Kaftanzogleio
PAOK B took the lead, put in a good performance, standing out against the top team in the standings, but once again they paid for their inertia in set pieces and were ultimately defeated 2-1 by POT Iraklis Fournoi Venetti at the Kaftanzogleio in their sixth round match of Super League 2.
PAOK B took the lead in just the second minute with Kalogiros winning a penalty and Mythou converting it perfectly, scoring his first goal in a professional league.
The home team responded in the 14th minute with Panagiotidis. After a free-kick from a foul (which was perhaps doubtful) in stoppage time, PAOK B were unable to clear their lines and conceded an equalizer. It was then expected that POT Iraklis to exert pressure, but the visitors managed to fend off the home team’s attacks, with Nikolakoulis making a good save in the 18th minute.
In the second half, PAOK B were even better and if they had taken advantage of the scoring chances they created, they could have scored a second goal. Instead, and against the run of play, Koustas scored in the 69th minute to win it for the home side. It had been preceded by an excellent save from Nikolakoulis for a corner-kick, which also resulted in the goal. In the remaining minutes, PAOK B tried to push forward but failed to get anything from the game.
It is worth emphasizing, although PAOK B’s tactics and philosophy of having a low average age in its teams is well-known and established, that in the starting XI today, five players born in 2007, four in 2005, one in 2004 and one in 2002 took part…
The next game, obviously crucial, is a home match against Nestos Chrysoupolis.
