Biggest win in the top flight
On this day in 1955, PAOK recorded their largest-margin victory in Greece’s top tier before the establishment of A’ Ethniki. Since 1930-31, the Greek League consisted of one group with all teams playing against each other.
Many changes would follow in the procedure until the introduction of the A’ Ethniki league in 1959-60, with 16 teams participating.
On 18 May 1955, PAOK recorded their biggest win in the pre- A’ Ethniki championships. Panetolikos were the unfortunate rivals of the day. The “Double-Headed Eagle” played host to the Agrinio outfit at Syntrivani Ground and prevailed 7-1.
Kiourtzis (2′, 10′) and (pictured) Kouiroukidis (6′, 63′, 80′), Papadakis (69′) and Gentzis (81′) were on target for PAOK. Mitsou scored Panetolikos’s consolation goal.
