Panetolikos – PAOK: Mixed zone

The reaction of Aleksandar Prijović and Adelino Vieirinha after PAOK’s victory in Agrinio for matchday 19 of Super League Souroti:

28.01.2018

The… saviour of the “Double-Headed Eagle”, Aleksandar Prijović, focused on the defensive game of their rivals, commented on the play that led to PAOK’s penalty, spoke about the rest of the season as well as his life in Thessaloniki and at the club:

«We did our job well, in a very tough encounter. I believe we had chances to score, I wasted two of them. Most our opportunities came from collecting rebounds. Panetolikos defended in numbers. In my opinion, the referee was right to award the penalty. There were many tough fouls in the game and that is why he would pause play all the time.

We need to win all these matches, because they usually determine the league winner. However I believe that the league will be decided in Toumba Stadium.

My teammates are doing a fine job and help me score. My main objective is for us to win the domestic double. Apart from that, any individual distinction will be welcome.

I am enjoying my life in Thessaloniki. I feel at home in Greece, the people are so warm.

I am focused on PAOK, I work for PAOK every day. I received offers from other clubs. Nobody knows what will happen today, tomorrow, next year. Only God knows. I am here and I fight for PAOK.

League title with PAOK or a fine run with Serbia in the upcoming World Cup? I would want both. But, if I had to choose, I would go with a championship for PAOK.»

Adelino Vieirinha underlined that such games decide league titles. He also spoke about PAOK’s winning spirit:

«We need to continue on the same pace until the end and go for our wins until the last whistle. We all fought, we all run until the last minute and we will keep on working hard until the end. We believe in our chances to win the league. There are many matches left and we have to take it game by game. Now we will focus on PAS Giannina. In the 80th minute, as I was looking at the scoreboard, I was sure we would score and win. At the start of the season, we would procude chances but not convert them. We have changed our way of working, but that is not the point.

I am not giving importance to records. We want to win all our matches until the end. Every encounter is a final for us, we take it one game at a time. We have shown what we are capable of. We didn’t just throw in crosses looking for Prijović. We knew that goals would eventually come if we applied what we have been working on. It wasn’t a fantastic match from our part, but we fought and showed strength of character. Our fans are always with us, by our side and we want to celebrate all together, because matches aren’t over until the last whistle.«
