PAOK among PSAP’s finest

In contemporary football, right full-backs are supposed to intercept and cross. But Léo Matos does much more than that: he scores, sets up goals, builds up plays…

29.01.2018

His inclusion in the Top XI of 2016-17 Super League was undisputed. The Brazilian right back was voted by his peers and represented PAOK in PSAP’s event for last season’s best.

As the team’s captain, Léo Matos also collected the Fair Play award for the initiative of PAOK and AEK Athens players to step out on the pitch together before the Greek Cup final, in an effort to put an end to fan trouble and prevent it from escalating.

After being presented with these two awards, Matos spoke about the Fair Play award for PAOK and AEK Athens:

«I hope that such incidents will never be repeated. It’s an important award. I wish I weren’t holding it. It would mean that these incidents wouldn’t have taken place«.

Vladan Ivić was voted best coach for last season. PAOK’s former tactician thanked the players of the “Double-Headed Eagle”, his assistants and Ivan Savvidis who trusted in his abilities and gave him the opportunity to be at the helm of such a big team.

Matos also spoke about his former coach:

«I wish to thank Vladan Ivić. When I came to Greece, I was more attack-minded and he helped me a lot to adjust. I am grateful for what he gave me, I believe he truly deserves the award he got tonight and I wish him all the best«.
