On pitch, they have no match
PAOK needed just two minutes to do what they know well: to score and produce attractive attacking football, without appeals and… objections!
Răzvan Lucescu’s troops remain the best team on the pitch, after their 3-1 victory over Panionios. Taking into consideration everything that has happened in the last 6 weeks, their dedication to football principles is remarkable.
Yevhen Shakhov put the home side ahead after just two minutes of play, taking advantage of Kotnik’s blunder. In the 15th minute, Omar El Kaddouri scored his first goal in the league, culminating a breathtaking team combination. The 2-0 scoreline was rather flattering for the guests after the first half, given the outlook of the encounter.
After the interval, the pace dropped slightly but the “Double-Headed Eagle” remained in command. In the 66th minute, PAOK launched a textbook, fast-passing transition from defence to attack and Aleksandar Prijović provided an impeccable finishing touch. Panionios could only net a consolation goal, but it was magnificent: a thunderous strike by Durmishaj, applauded by 20-30 people allowed in the stands.
Panionios: Kotnik, Saramantas, Stavropoulols, Banana, Papageorgiou, Piniotis, Korbos, Spiridonović (68’ Ikonomidis), Savvidis (56’ Makrillos), Masouras (73’ Brahimi), Durmishaj.
