AEL – PAOK: Mixed zone
What Limnios, Pelkas and Paschalakis said after PAOK’s 1-1 draw with AEL in Larissa.
Dimitris Limnios
“We are disappointed, this is not the result we were after. Before the match kicked off, we told ourselves that we would win and become champions. Nobody took the match lightly. Our team played quality football from minute one, but Larissa equalized out of nowhere. We failed to seal the deal today and didn’t make our fans happy.
We had several opportunities to score, especially in the 2nd half. We were better than our rivals, no doubt about it, it was obvious. But that’s football. We need to be better in the game against Levadiakos and win the league title.
Our coach is also upset, because we could have won the league title today. But there’s no use bending our hands down. Let’s play well against Levadiakos and get that title.
I am so sad for Vieirinha. He is a true leader, we all acknowledge it. I wish him a speedy recovery. I wish that he and Malezas and all the team captains will lift the league trophy in Thessaloniki. I am sure it will happen soon.
The pitch is unplayable in many Greek grounds. Especially in the second half, with the rain falling, it was impossible to play football. We enjoy swift one-touch passing. We tried to play our game, had opportunities to score, were better throughout, but not lucky”.
“Let me wish our captain a speedy recovery. Hopefully it won’t be anything serious. He is our skipper, our most valuable player and we need him.
We created opportunities to score. The pitch wasn’t at its best. We scored, wasted opportunities and ended up conceding because of a collective error. We want to win every game. That’s what we aim to do against Levadiakos.
It’s bad to see teammates getting injured. We are all here to help, regulars or subs. We are upset with the situation, but we have to deal with it. We need to bring everything on the pitch and achieve our objectives.
In every game I want to bring out everything I have in me. I have been at PAOK since my childhood. I wanted to score a crucial goal. I prayed for the match to end and to clinch the league title. The feelings are intense. Hopefully I will be more reserved in the future.
When you are young and see things and then watch them happening before you, the moment can’t get more intense. I can’t describe it further.
After every game, we look back to see what we did wrong in order to do better in the future. Today we fought, we gave everything, but were unlucky to concede. We continue our efforts in the same demure way.
We thank our fans for all their preparations. It wasn’t meant to be today. I am sure they will be by our side on Sunday. They have been supporting us all year, taking this journey alongside us.
It’s very different. I have been living with this team since the age of 13. I can’t describe what I felt when I scored, it was very intense. It is very rewarding to boost the morale of newcomers and motivating them. All players should do that”.
Alexandros Paschalakis
“Vieirinha’s injury has affected our mood. We are waiting for the results of his medical test. It’s a pity to lose such important players at this point of the season. We want them all on our side, they are inextricable parts of the team, they have given everything. André isn’t doing well. He is waiting for the test results and he is aware that something is wrong. We are trying to boost his morale. He deserves to be our top priority.
We had opportunities to score. We conceded that goal at an unlucky moment, as the AEL player aimed for a cross. Such things happen in football. We need one more point. We are undefeated, there’s no need to get upset. We wait for our fans to join us in Toumba to celebrate the league title. The best is yet to come.
We need to keep our feet on the ground –that’s the only way towards success. We all wanted to win today, our fans and the team. But there are two teams on the pitch. We wanted all three points, but we got one. Next Sunday can be a very important days for us, as we aim to win and seal the league title. I have learnt to focus on the positive rather than the negative aspect of things. We can’t sit and sulk about it. We want to experience it all together, as a family: the injured guys, those who play, those on the reserve bench.
It’s a huge loss. André has signed his name to this team in gold letters. Maurício has contributed a lot. Wernbloom… It’s evident that luck is necessary in football. We now need to support them all.
Let’s celebrate next week, all united”.
