«Proud and happy»

Răzvan Lucescu was emotional in his press conference conceded after the final whistle of the encounter against PAS Giannina and the win that sealed PAOK’s undefeated league.

05.05.2019

Regarding everything that happened on Sunday:

«I am very proud for everyone who was by our side and for their support. I am proud for the administration of PAOK, because we were really a very tight-knit group. I am very happy for satisfying our fans. We wanted this so much. We fought for this all season long. It was far from easy, more so starting with a 2-point deduction. We remained united through thick and thin and achieved this incredible record. When the players hang up their boots, they will remember these moments, this incredible achievement and will be able to boast they did something important in football«.

On what this season means to him:

«You can perfectly understand I am very emotional. That doesn’t mean though we won’t be focused on Saturday’s game. We will go to win the Greek Cup. However today we finished the league, having won it after 34 years and with the best performance ever. Panathinaikos had also won an undefeated league, but with less points«.

On his display of emotions:

«I am very passionate about football. I can safely say I consider this season as the most important of my career«.

On PAOK’s day after:

«We have the Greek Cup final ahead of us. It’s our priority and we want to win. Then we go on vacation to rest and calm down. Afterwards we will set our team’s next objectives«.

Regarding the most unforgettable moments of the season:

«The most significant moment was winning away at Olympiakos. With four games played, we couldn’t overtake Olympiakos in the standings due to the point deduction, but that victory did it for us. Our determination to win the league for a second consecutive season on the pitch kept us at the top throughout the season«.

Regarding PAOK’s impressive record and the impressive will to win displayed by everyone:

«First of all, the club owner provided us with the opportunity to work with such a fantastic group of players. Quality is important, but it’s equally significant to have such characters in the team. What happened last season made us all the more determined to win the league (again) on the pitch and get vindicated«.

Regarding the Greek Cup final and the possibility of a game behind closed doors:

«Football is for the fans. The atmosphere fans can create in Greek stadia is a rare sight in Europe. It’s not my place to make decisions, but this is the opinion of someone spending their career in football grounds«.

Regarding the match he experienced most intensely:

«The encounter against PAS Giannina, today. We couldn’t wait for it to finish. After 29 games undefeated, we were facing a highly motivated team fighting to avoid relegation. This is the game with the most intense emotions. Even after the Levadiakos match, when we clinched the league title, I didn’t feel the joy I feel today. We won a league. But winning it in such a way is truly unique. And don’t forget we started out with a 2-point deduction«.
