A time for regrouping and consolidation
Pokfc.gr profiles our arch rivals Aris ahead of the match against the Yellow and Blacks at the Toumba for the fourth round of the 2019-20 Super League.
As newcomers to the Super League again last season, Aris managed to finish in the European places with a very successful return to the top flight. This year the club’s first priority is to build on that and consolidate. Aris are aiming to continue their positive course despite of the early-season problems they have had.
There were lots of changes over the summer. Savvas Pantelidis was appointed as coach and was given the task of building on the squad which did so well last year. There were some important departures, however, the main two which affected the spine of the team were those of Siopis and Mateo Garcia, but the club’s board worked hard to fill the voids left by those players with some quality additions to the squad.
The most important of those arrivals are Ideye, Sundgren, Sasha and Mancini, who together with the likes of Fetfatzidis and Rose compose the main backbone of the first XI.
Unfortunately the technical team led by Pantelidis did not manage to get off to a good start and so did not last long. After the defeat against fellow newcomers Volos FC on Matchday 2, Savvidis and his staff parted ways with the club, with interim coach Apostolos Terzis taking the reins until a new coach is found. At the same time, Aris also changed its technical director following the resignation of Kostas Diamantopoulos just before the start of the season with Angelos Charisteas replacing him.
The Yellow and Blacks started the season with great expectactions, hoping to progress through the qualifying rounds for the UEFA Europa League. But while they managed to get past AEL Lemessos, they could not overcome Norwegian outfit Molde. In league play, the results have not been so encouraging either. After three matches, Aris has beaten only Panathinaikos, while drawing at home against OFI Crete and losing to Volos FC away from home at the Panthessaliko Stadium.
