Happy Birthday Lazare!

Our midfielder Lazaros Lamprou turns 22 today, and PAOK FC would like to wish him many years of health, happiness and successes on both a personal and professional level.

19.12.2019

Lamprou inherited his sporting genes from his parents, both of whom are PE teachers. He began to play football at 5 years old and joined the academy teams of AE Pontion Katerini. His natural talent stood out from day one, and it was not long before he attracted the attention of scouts from Greece’s big clubs.

Due to their collaboration with the academy where Lamprou was playing, Panathinaikos took him into their youth academy system when he was 13 years old. At the Greens Lamprou played a leading role in the team and was soon called up to the Greek national youth teams setup.

In the summer of 2016 he was close to joining Roma, but the Italian club’s failure to secure a place in the group stage of the Champions League meant that they decided not to go ahead with the transfer.

Iraklis offered him a contract and it was with that club that he signed his first professional contract. Lamprou made 13 appearances for the Thessaloniki club, scoring one goal and contributing one assist.

PAOK signed him in December 2016 and then loaned him out to Panionios. He stayed in Nea Smyrni for one-an-a-half years, making 45 appearances for the club an scoring eight goals while dishing out five assists.

He returned to the Dikefalos tou Vorra, but after pre-season in 2017 he decided to go out on loan again in Holland at Fortuna Sittard. After a season in the Netherlands, he returned to PAOK.
