On this day: A crucial away win en route to the title
On March 31 1985 PAOK traveled to the Alkazar where they faced Larissa and managed to come away with a vital away win on the road to the league title.
Larissa were unbeaten at home before PAOK arrived, but against the future league champions the home side failed to get anything out of the match.
The visitors went ahead in the 25th minute through Christos Dimopoulos, who latched on to a cross from Alavantas to make it 1-0. Dimopoulos then made it 2-0 in the 84th minute following a strong run, before Larissa got back into the game with a controversial penalty to make it 2-1.
PAOK held firm to their lead, however, to earn three precious points and take advantage of draws by Olymiaos, who were held 1-1 by Panathinaikos, and ΑΕΚ, who drew 0-0 with Panionios, as well as Iraklis, who drew 2-2 with Panachaiki
That set of results gave PAOK a three-point cushion at the top of the table from the three sides chasing them in Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Iraklis, while AEK were a further point behind those three.
