Time doesn’t pass, it stops…

It’s been 24 years and you’re still here. Beside us on the terraces. Forever in our hearts, our minds and our souls. Our memory of you is stronger than ever.

04.10.2023

For 24 years now, there is not a single person from the PAOK family that have allowed the six names to be forgotten.

Charalambé, Dimitris, Christina, Anastasis, Giorgos, and Kyriakos. Your love for PAOK brought you here, left you here, and then went further and was an example of devotion and faith in the four letters of the club for those who sit next to your seats, remember your trips together, and cry when they think back to that difficult night of October ’99.

Your favorite pasttime, the addiction to the cult of the Double-headed Eagle, led you to climb the stairs of the two-story coach that would take you to the OAKA for the match againt Panathinaikos on October 3. And you went, you cheered, you celebrated Nagbe’s goal in the 1-1 draw, and then you settled into your seats for the return trip to Thessaloniki.

In the early morning the bus was quiet, but the fatigue was great, like every time you put in hundreds of kilometers in one day, just to be there, to support PAOK, to show the club what devotion means, to «train and teach» anyone new to our family on the ways of PAOK…

The change of driver was not understood, but it proved to be fatal … In a clumsy overtaking manoeuvre just two kilometers away from the tolls at Tembi, the driver lost control of the bus and it veered off the road and crashed close to the Kordelio junction…

Thousands of «whys» have been asked, and thousands of pages of memoirs have been written by those who survived the terrible accident in Tembi.

For PAOK itself, after all, memory is a key component of maintaining the character and values that unite so many thousands of people to shout the same slogans, to applaud the same emblem, to sacrifice and to be sacrificed …

Another slogan has been added since then, guys. And you would sing it too, if it were not for you: «Brothers, you live, you lead us …». It provides an indescribable shiver to the spine … To feel proud that at that moment everyone really becomes one …

How much we have all begged to turn back time. No matter how much we prayed, we did not succeed. But we did not give up. We have sworn that we will not let time pass you by. We do not remember you only this day. We always remember you and are inspired by you.

Time stopped on 04.10.1999 … That day the whole PAOK mourned. From that day on, the whole of PAOK is «missing» a part of the club. Whatever we achieve, whatever we dedicate to you, we will always pray that you could be with us …
