Ozdoev wins the award for the 2023 Regency Casino Best Goal
Elaborate scissor-kicks, incredible shots, breathtaking slalom dribbles, free-kicks. All of the above are very appealing to the eye, all worth someone paying a ticket for a match. But there are also other kinds of goals, which are probably the favorites of… coaches. They are those goals, when a team put together incredible moves that end with the ball in the back of the net. In this case, for the 2023 goal of the season contest, both coach and fans probably agree. Magomed Ozdoev is the owner of the award for the 2023 Regency Casino Best Goal.
While we all agree that usually these kinds of awards are won by brilliant finishes. Phases of play that end in spectacular fashion. In this case, however, the finish is simply a formality. All the rest, however, is pure football magic.
A diagonal, 50-meter ball from Sastre , wonderful control from Murg . These were the foundations. Then, Mr. Breeze, aka Ioannis Konstantelias, took over. He collected a pass from Murg , played a one-two with Brandon and found himself up against Alexandros Paschalakis. A magical dribble tok him past the home ‘keeper before an incredible backheel pass followed. The final touch was applied by Ozdoev and history was written.
The Russian midfielder’s goal has already won several awards. Goal of the match, best PAOK goal in November, while «Delias’s» assist was the top effort of November as well. But the awards do not stop there.
In the poll for the Regency Casino Best Goal of 2023, this masterpiece collected 45.47% of the public’s votes and claimed the prize.
What gives it even more value, was the strong competition it had to face. Narey’s superb goal after another spell of juggling magic from Konstantelias, and Zile’s… thunderbolt in Scotland against Hearts completed the podium.
