Bittersweet opening day defeat for PAOK B
PAOK B produced a determined and solid display in their first match of the Super League 2 season but ultimately lost 1-0 to Niki Volou at a packed Pantelis Magoulas. The Double-headed Eagle’s second string looked in good shape and had their moment before the home side scored in the 76th minute, leaving a bittersweet taste.
It was a game with pace, good tempo, and a great deal of balance in the first half.
The home team had control in the first 20 minutes, without creating any real threat. PAOK B then threatened with two shots, from Adam in the 23rd minute and Kalogiros in the 35th minute. Both times Garavelis was there to make the save.
The highlight of the first half was of course Monastirlis ‘ impressive save in a one-on-one situation against Loukinas in the 39th minute. In the second half, Niki Volou upped their tempo and energy, threatened in the 51st minute, but found Monastirlis a significant obstacle in front of them again in the 52nd minute and missed a great opportunity to open the scoring in the 62nd minute.
The home side’s pressure paid off, however, at the same time as PAOK B seemed to be losing their concentration – and in the 76th minute they found a way to score via Loukinas. PAOK B tried to respond but, despite Bataoula’s header in stoppage time, they were unable to get anything more out of the game.
The next game for PAOK B is at home against Anagennisi Karditsa.
