- PAOK face Celta for the second time in this year’s Europa League and this will be their third match against a Spanish team, after they beat Betis 2-0 on January 22, 2026. The two teams had met on Matchday 2 of the League Phase in Spain, where PAOK were defeated 3-1. Now they will face each other in two-legged matches in the Knockout Play Offs of the competition, with their first match taking place at the Toumba Stadium.
- In total, PAOK have faced eight teams from Spain in their history in European competitions in a total of 15 matches (three wins, five draws and seven losses) and three qualifications, four eliminations in knockout matches, while in the rest were in a group.
- PAOK’s first meeting with Spanish teams was against Barcelona, which had Johan Cruyff in their ranks. On September 16, 1975, PAOK won 1-0 in Thessaloniki (72′ Koudas) and in the return match, the Double-headed Eagle were defeated 6-1.
- In the next two experiences with teams from Spain, PAOK faced Sevilla, in 1982-83 and 1990-91, from which they were eliminated. In their first meeting, PAOK won 2-0 at the Toumba and lost 4-0 in Spain.
