The 17th «Panagiotis Katsouris» tournament

The club’s goal to evolve the “Panagiotis Katsouris” tournament into an elite tournament for developmental ages has, to a large extent, been achieved. Therefore, this April, the PAOK Academy is wearing a ‘European costume’ for a two-day tournament, which is no less prestigious than similar international tournaments in which our own teams participate in.

The «Panagiotis Katsouris» tournament has been held since 2009, in memory of our former player, who lost his life in a car accident on February 9, 1998, at the age of just 21. What began as a tribute with deep emotional value, has evolved into a renowned and high-level event, attracting leading academies of professional clubs from abroad.

The tournament will be held on April 18 and 19 at the LOLAS sports center in Souroti, involving the age grojups of U-15 and U-13 and in addition to PAOK’s teams, professional teams from Greece and Europe, as well as high-level academies, will participate. The following teams will travel to Thessaloniki, among others: Porto, Benfica, Feyenoord, Eintracht Frankfurt, Malmo, Bochum, Partizan, Twente, Ludogorets, Banik Ostrava.

In the tournament, PAOK also gives its training centers the opportunity to participate, as well as its cooperating academies, where extensive scouting is carried out.

In the U-15 category, 20 teams (four groups of five teams) will compete, and in the U-13 category, 24 teams (four groups of six teams). And all this in three phases. The group matches will be held on Saturday 18.04 and the knock out games in the B’phase (gold and silver path) on Sunday 19.04. In these, the teams are divided based on their score in the A’ phase, with the 1st and 2nd places leading to the Gold Path, while the 3rd, 4th and 5th places to the Silver Path. On Sunday, of course, the classification matches and the finals will be held.

The duration of the matches will be 25 minutes. There is no extra-time, matches go directly to penalties to decide the winner.
