A PAOK legend and mentor for a number of years of the PAOK Under-17 and Under-15 teams, Stavros Sarafis enriches the PAOK Academy ‘roster’ with his mere presence.

«Caesar», as he is also known, enjoyed a great professional career at the Double-headed Eagle and after he left, he maintained a close connection with the club. He remains, of course, the top scorer in the team’s history with 168 goals in 433 games. Of these, 136 were in the Greek championship, 26 in the Greek Cup, and six in European games. He celebrated the league title win of the 1975-76 season, as well as two Greek Cups (1971-72 and 1973-74).

Sarafis began his career at Anagennisi Epanomi and on November 23, 1966, when he turned 16, he was called up to the Greek national youth team. In the summer of 1967, at the age of 17, he was acquired by PAOK, where he remained until 1981 when he retired from playing. It was August 26, 1981 when PAOK honored Sarafis in a friendly game with the Greece national team. Approximately 10,000 supporters were there to give him a spectacular sendoff. He has to leave the field in the 40th minute of the game as his emotions got the better of him and he was simply unable to continue.

After the end of his playing career, he worked in various positions at PAOK. He has also been an interim coach from time to time (1988-89, 1993-94, 1995-96 and 1999-2000), while in recent years he has held the role of team manager and head of the younger age group teams at the PAOK Academy, mainly for the Under-17 and Under-15 sides.

His international playing career with Greece began on July 19, 1969 when he made his debut in the away friendly match against Australia, and ended on his last match in 1977 after a total of 32 appearances and seven goals.

He also won third place in the 1972 Armed Forces World Cup with the National Armed Forces, played with the national youth team in the European Championship in 1968, and in the Under-21 side with which in 1969 he won the Balkan Cup.
