72 matches unbeaten and counting for the Under-19s
While we may not be intentionally focusing on numbers, it seems to come to us subconsciously. Seventy-two – yes 72! That’s how many games the Under-19 side are now unbeaten and the run goes on. It was Atromitos’ turn this time to fall on Matchday 2 of the Super League championship, with Garcia and Schnauzner’s team winning 4-1 in a match which took place on Saturday morning in Souroti.
Much improved, with a more stable performance compared to the 2020-21 season premiere, the Under-19s did not allow any room for the opposition to react, while there were also no signs of nerves, with the home side essentially ending the game as a contest by the end of the first half.
In the 24th minute, the Double-headed Eagle opened the scoring through Aventisian, who slotted hom a spot-kick which had been won by Gorteziani. The latter repeated his feet just six minutes later, winning another penalty which Konstantelias tucked away after 31 minutes to make make it 2-0. Then, in the 42nd minute, Konstantelias grabbed PAOK’s third goal following an assist by Tsopouroglou, scored the third goal for PAOK.
The Double-headed Eagle still had an appetite for more goals in the second half, attacking with purpose and creating chances, but they only found the net once more via Panidis in the 49th minute. Atromitos scored a consolation goal to reduce the deficit in the 59th minute.
Next up for PAOK’s youngsters is Volos on Saturday, September 26.
