Here are some interesting stats, background data and head-to-head info regarding the encounters between PAOK and Platanias, a few hours before the two sides meet in Toumba for matchday 30 of Super League Souroti.
# PAOK have played host to Platanias in Toumba Stadium 5 times and recorded as many victories, without conceding goals. Their first match in Thessaloniki was held in 11 November 2012, the “Two-Headed Eagle” prevailing 2-0 thanks to goals by Salpingidis (68’) and Lino (75’). In 2013-14, PAOK won 1-0 with Vukić scoring the solitary goal (58’). In 2014-15, Athanasiadis (24’) decided the 1-0 victory, while on 2015-16 the same player converted the spot-kick for PAOK’s 1-0 victory. In 2016-17, the “Double-Headed Eagle” prevailed comfortably, with a brace by Léo Matos (61’, 81’) and a Banana own-goal (87’).
# In a total of 11 games between the two sides both at home and away, PAOK have 9 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat. They suffered their only loss to Platanias (2-1) in 2013-14, in Chania. # It’s the first time that an encounter between PAOK and Platanias takes place in May. Saturday’s match will mark the end of Platanias’s six-year presence in the Super League Souroti, as they have been already relegated. It’s only the second time that PAOK play host to Platanias in the second round of fixtures of the league. Up until now, the Cretan side had already visited Toumba by January every season.
