Madley to referee the Toumba leg

English referee Robert Madley has been assigned the first-leg encounter between PAOK and FC Basel for the UEFA Champions League play-offs.

23.07.2018

Born on 6 October 1985 in Wakefield, England, Robert Madley is a professional referee. He started his career in 2001, handling encounters of the local league. He climbed quickly through the ranks and made it to the national lists in 2010, when he started officiating in League Two, League One and Championship matches.

In 2013, he joined the elite refereeing group of his country, becoming eligible for Premier League games. He made his debut at the top tier in April 2013, in an encounter between Southampton FC and West Bromwich Albion FC where he sent three players off.

He earned his FIFA badge in 2016 and refereed the encounter between FK Vardar and Dinamo Zagreb for the UEFA Champions League 2nd qualifying round. A year later, on 6 August 2017 he handled the Community Shield match between Chelsea and Arsenal.

He is rather inexperienced in European competitions, but is considered an up-and-coming ref in England, having made it to the top tier at a rather young age.

In Toumba, he will be accompanied by his countrymen Ian Hussin and Marc Perry, the assistant referees, with Jonathan Moss acting as fourth official.
