Vidi – PAOK: Mixed zone
Here is what Crespo, Wernbloom and Toșca said after PAOK’s loss to Vidi in Hungary for matchday 4 of the UEFA Europa League.
José Ángel Crespo reached the 100-game mark with the PAOK shirt on in “Groupama Arena”, wore the captain’s armband, but didn’t get to enjoy this achievement. After the final whistle, he said:
“100 matches for PAOK, but I am not happy with our result. After Vidi’s goal, we couldn’t find any space –that happened in both encounters. In football, one can never predict what might happen, therefore we will try to turn this situation around. We have to improve and start scoring in such matches.
I have played 100 matches for PAOK and I aim to feature in many more. I am happy to be here and I want to help the team on and off the pitch. We have a very important, must-win game upfront on Sunday.”
Pontus Wernbloom spoke about his team’s lack of creativity against Vidi:
“We couldn’t create many chances. In such encounters, we must bring the ball in the box, close to the spot. But we failed to do that in both matches against Vidi, hence two defeats.”
As for Alin Toșca , who was called to fill in for injured Vieirinha, he spoke about the similarities between the two games against Vidi and stressed that the team need to be more patient:
“The game resembled a lot the one in Toumba two weeks ago. Our rivals settled into their own half and defended well. We made one error and unfortunately conceded the goal.
In such games, we must be more patient in our build-up in order to break through the rival defence. We didn’t do that and couldn’t score.”
