PAOK 2018: The year in numbers
It’s been a year of excellent football, historic milestones, two on-pitch titles and a breathtaking start in the 2018-19 season. It’s been an unforgettable year and paokfc.gr have the numbers to back up this assessment.
The “Double-Headed Eagle” played 49 games in 2018. There was also one match where the rivals chose not to show up and another game never concluded, while PAOK were leading 1-0.
In these 49 games, the troops of Răzvan Lucescu recorded 38 victories, 4 draws and suffered 7 defeats. Six of these losses came in European competition and just one on the domestic front, a last-season setback at Asteras Tripolis.
Since 6 January, when PAOK kicked off 2018 by prevailing 5-0 over Levadiakos, until the last match of the year, a 6-0 thrashing of Aittitos at Spata for the Greek Cup group stage, the “Double-Headed Eagle” netted 99 goals and conceded 38.
Top players per category
Aleksandar Prijović is by far the team’s top scorer. He netted 35 goals in 2018, he reached the 50-goal milestone with PAOK at a record time, he won the Top Scorer accolade in last season’s league, completed last season with 27 goals to his name (a PAOK record), while he is up there alongside Luís Suárez, Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah and Robert Lewandowski among the most prolific strikers of 2018.
Dimitris Pelkas is second in the scoring list –and the only PAOK player besides Prijović with a two-digit tally. PAOK co-captain has netted 10 goals in 2018 and tops the assists list with 11 to his name.
Regarding match appearances, Aleksandar Prijović tops this list as well with 47 games played, followed by Alexandros Paschalakis (45) and defensive duo José Ángel Crespo and Fernando Varela (both with 44).
The milestones of the year
In the beginning of 2018, the “Double-Headed Eagle” were impressive and on a roll, winning all their matches until they travelled to Tripolis for the game against Asteras. They set a record of consecutive wins (15) and have already recorded their best ever start in the league, with 13 wins and 1 draw.
