Douglas Augusto called up to Brazil Under-23 squad
His talent and reputation has been there since he was a young child. He is a player that has always been on the Seleção radar, having also captained the Under-20 side. At PAOK Douglas Augusto has found the right place to showcase his talent in a highly-competitive environment which is far from his comfort zone. And it’s now helped him regain the attention of the national team set-up.
Douglas Augusto has been called up by the Brazil Under-23 side for a friendly tournament in Spain which involves Argentina, USA and Chile, which is intended to act as a warm-up for the 2020 Olympic Games qualifying tournament which kicks off in the New Year.
It’s the first time that Douglas has received an international call-up since playing for the Under-20 team. The PAOK midfielder will join up with his teammates in Spain for the UNITED International Football Festival.
Brazil takes on USA in their first game, and the winner of that match will face the winner of the other game between Argentina and Chile.
As mentioned above, the friendly tournament is a warm-up ahead of the upcoming qualifying tournament for the Olympics which will take place in Colombia from January 18 to February 9 2020.
In that tournament, 10 teams will battle it out for two places at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2020. The Brazilians have been drawn in a group alongside Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and Uruguay. The top two teams in the group will meet the top two from the second group in a final group stage, after which the top two teams in that group will qualify for Tokyo.
Thus the upcoming tournament in Spain will provide a decent crash test for the Brazilians before they kick off their Olympic qualifying campaign.
