Triumph in Piraeus

An excellent and spirited PAOK went to Piraeus, scored two quick goals, missed opportunities for even more, managed the game in an exemplary manner and qualified in convincing style to the semi-finals of the 2025-26 Betsson Greek Cup.

Razvan Lucescu made three changes to his starting limeup compared to the game in Agrinio with Kedziora, Ozdoev and Mythou coming in, with the coach having to deal with the losses of Monastirlis, Despodov, Sastre, Thymianis and Kamara, who were out with a virus.

PAOK started the match flawlessly and very quickly managed to impose their game on the home side. In the seventh minute, Andrija Zivkovic penetrated the hosts’ defence, sent Mythou through on goal with a killer pass at the right moment, and the young striker showed great skill and composure to skip past Tzolakis and a defender before slotting the ball into an empty net to make it 1-0 to PAOK.

The visitors’ superior performance translated into a bigger lead in the 15th minute. Lucescu’s players lept possession brilliantly, before Taison switched play from left flank to right with a pass to A. Zivkovic, who with one touch set up the on-rushing Ozdoev, with the Russian midfielder scoring with an incredible first-time diagonal shot.

PAOK were clearly the better side in the first half, forcing Medilibar to start making substitutions from the 32nd minute, while the visitors also had some good moments to extend their lead, with a powerful shot by Konstantelias that was impressively saved by Tzolakis, with the home team then having a shot by Chiquinho that was blocked and went for a corner.

In the second half, PAOK came out strong again and in the 47th minute Tzolakis make a good save to deny a shot from Mythos. Olympiacos then had a good chance in the 52nd minute but Tsiftsis saved Mouzakitis‘ shot.

The visitors then looked to manage the game and did so very effectively, not allowing Olympiacos to threaten, and they held on the 2-0 scoreline until the final whistle, booked their ticket to the semi-finals, and are waiting to discover their opponent.
