Defeat in Athens
Weakened by a host of absentees, PAOK were defeated 3-0 in Athens by AEK on Matchday 2 of the 2025-26 Stoiximan Super League Play Offs.
PAOK lined up on the pitch with Tsiftsis, Sanchez, Kedziora, Lovren, and Baba in defence, Ozdoev, Zafeiris and Konstantelias in midfield and Hatsidis, Jeremejeff and Taison in attack.
PAOK tried to take control of the match at the start and play their game, with AEK conceding space and waiting to strike on the counter-attack.
In the fouth minute, Tsiftsis made a great save from Pineda’s attempt, while PAOK tried to threaten with two shots by Hatsidis and Jeremejeff that did not find the target.
The home team increased their pressure after the first 15 minutes onwards and began to threaten the visitors goal more. In the 19th minute, Tsiftsis again was called upon to make a great double save on attempts by Zini and Varga.
In the 36th minute, the moment that largely decided the match came. Pereira crossed from the left, Kedziora tried to clear with a header but the ball skimmed off the Polish defender’s head and looped over his own goalkeeper to give AEK the lead.
At the start of the second half, Razvan Lucescu brought on Michailidis and Kenny , in place of the injured Lovren and Sanchez , but the pattern of the match did not change.
In the last part of the match, AEK scored two more goals with Koita and Pineda the men on target and registered a valuable three-point haul.
PAOK are now called upon to react immediately to be ready for the Greek Cup final against OFI next weekend.
