Born in Tamale, Ghana on July 2, 1994, Baba made his footballing debut with his local team Young Meteors, and in 2010 transferred to Dreams FC, where he played professionally for the first time in the second division.

His impressive performances saw him earn a promotion to the big league and Asante Kotoko, who acquired him on loan.

The player then began to be monitored by scouts from Europe’s big clubs, such as Manchester City and Arsenal, but he decided to move to Europe with German outfit Greuther Furth, who offered him a leading role in the Bundesliga. This turned out to be the right move. His team may not have been able to stay in the top flight, but Baba’s performances were excellent. He stayed at Greuther for another season in the Bundesliga 2 and then moved to Augsburg.

With 31 games and five assists, Baba impressed Chelsea, who spent 14 million euros to bring him to London. He signed a five-year contract with the Blues and in the 2015-16 season he played 23 times, earning a place in the starting lineup, despite the competition for places.

The next season he went out on loan to Schalke. A return to the Bundesliga was what he needed, but misfortune would knock on his door for the first time. He managed to play in 19 games, scoring once and providing two assists, before suffering a knee injury and missing the rest of the season. He returned in the 2017-18 season and stayed with the Royal Blues for another six months before moving to France with Reims.

At Reims, he found some rhythm, playing in 11 games, scoring once and assisting on another goal. He returned to London, but then he was loaned out again to Mallorca, who had just been promoted to La Liga. A knee injury did not allow him to get much playing time, and so he returned to England in order to fully recover and return to action.

Baba made his debut with the Ghana national team in 2014 and is a regular squad member to date, counting 30 appearances and six assists, and being a finalist in the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
