The squad for the match against OFI
The derby win over AEK now belongs to the past and the PAOK players are already focusing on the next challenge – the second leg of the Greek Cup Round of 16 contest against OFI at the Toumba. PAOK has a handsome 3-0 advantage from last week’s first leg in Heraklion to defend but there is still a job to do in order to secure a place in the last eight of the competition.
In these times of fixture pile-ups, the training sessions at the club’s Nea Mesimvria HQ are based more on managing the squad’s ‘human’ resources. It’s all about the right blend of recuperation and micro-managing of small injury niggles, as well as keeping the fringe players, who are waiting for an opportunity to stake their claim for a regular first-team place, fit and ready.
In that context, Josip Misic remained in the gym to rest a leg injury, but he is included in the squad to face OFI. In contrast, Omar El Kaddouri and Jose Crespo have been left out of the squad in order to be able to fully recover from their respective injury ailments. Also out of contention is Diego Biseswar , who is nursing sore ribs from a clash with AEK goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas in the derby clash at the weekend.
