Under-17s lift trophy in Scotland
A week before the start of the Super League championship, the U-17 team traveled to Aberdeen, Scotland and managed to win the Craig Brown Trophy.
Orfanos’ and Krinitsa’s team beat Celtic 4-2 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw in normal time) in the final of the tournament. Vatsos saved two penalties in the shootout, while Veridiano, Douralis, Kogalidis and Baibourdis all scored from the penalty spot.
PAOK went through their group as the first placed team with three wins (1-0 against Celtic, 1-0 against Newcastle, and 1-0 against Preston), a draw (1-1 against Motherwell) and a defeat (0-2 against Aberdeen). They then defeated Southampton 3-1 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw in normal time) in the semi-final, with Xefteris playing a major role, saving two penalties. In the group stage, Louska scored three times and Kakalis and Kogalidis scored once each. PAOK’s goals in the semi-final were scored by Xefteris, Veridiano and Douralis.
It is also clearly worth emphasizing that the tournament concerned U-16 teams, so we went to Scotland with our «little ones» (2010 generation), plus four even younger ones (2011).
Congratulations to our youngsters!
