Born on 28 June 1994 in Vinkovci, Croatia, Josip Mišić joined the youth ranks of NK Osijek at the age of 11, in 2005 and went all the way to the senior team. He made his professional debut on 12 July 2012, in a home encounter against FC Santa Coloma for the UEFA Europa League qualifying stage.

His performances (64 games for NK Osijek and three goals) caught the eye of Croatia’s powerhouses until 2014. Despite GNK Dinamo’s attempts to sign him, he opted for HNK Rijeka instead.

After the first six months at his new club, where he got to feature in 15 matches, he was shipped on loan to Italian outfit Spezia Calcio. He played in 9 encounters of Serie B. He rose to prominence in 2016-17, as he became a regular for HNK Rijeka and proved a vital cog on their way to the domestic double. He featured in 42 encounters, netted two goals and served six assists.

He kept his foot on the throttle in the first part of last season. Until January, he conjured 2 goals and 6 assists in 32 encounters, played in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and the UEFA Europa League group stage.

Various foreign clubs came knocking on HNK Rijeka’s door and it was Sporting Clube Portugal who invested 2,35 million euros to sign him. However, Mišić didn’t succeed in his quest for regular football and only got to feature in 9 games for the “Lisbon lions”.

The 24-year old player is a Croatia international, having made his debut for them in 2017 in two friendly encounters against Chile and China.
