Panagiotis Glykos was born in Volos, of Skopelos’ descent. He started his career at the Olympiacos Volos Academies at the age of 17 and it took him just one season to make the leap to the senior team. He was among the stars of Olympiacos Volos’ promotion from the 3rd to the 2nd tier through the 2007 play-offs. PAOK spotted him there and acquired him as an investment for the future.

Two seasons later and after his PAOK senior debut at the age of 23 in an encounter against Thrasyvoulos, he was shipped on loan to Olympiacos Volou in the summer of 2009. He remained there for six months and returned to Thessaloniki. He wasn’t given the opportunity to become a regular at Toumba, therefore he left again in the summer of 2010 for a loan spell at Agrotikos Asteras. He was unlucky though, as he suffered a serious injury in warm-up before his first match there and missed the season.

He returned to Thessaloniki in the summer of 2011 and gradually became the regular goalkeeper, winning over László Bölöni, Giorgos Donis and Huub Stevens. In the summer of 2013, Fernando Santos calls him for the first time in the Greece national team for the FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifiers against Latvia and Lithuania –he didn’t get to play though. He did eventually make his international debut in the friendly encounter against South Korea. His impressive performances for PAOK secured him a place in Santos’ 23-men list for the Brazil trip. In the finals, he came off the bench in the historic victory over Ivory Coast that saw Greece qualify for the first time ever in the last 16 stage of the competition.

After his return from Brazil, he penned the extension of his contract with PAOK, becoming one of the team’s three captains.
